Get a Nightclub Photographer To Notice You

Notice Me

If you happen to be out at a club and notice a Nightlife Photographer wandering around snapping photos, here are some tips on getting the photographer to notice you:

  • Make sure you have a skimpy or totally wild outfit on.  The skimpier or crazier the outfit, the better.
  • Don’t be afraid to track down the photographer and ask for a photo.
  • Make eye contact with the nightclub photographer from across the room and smile.
  • If you’re a chick, make out with the girl next to you.
  • If you’re a chick, make out with the Nightclub Photographer.
  • If you’re a dude, make sure you have at least 3 sexy girls with you.
  • Don’t be afraid to have a wardrobe malfunction.  It’s natural.
A nightclub photographer doesn’t have time and isn’t paid enough to take photos of everyone at the club, so you have to go out of your way to catch his or her eye if you want to end up on the club’s website the next day.  The absolute best way to guarantee your photo will show up in the nightclub photo gallery is to dress hot, do something crazy, then buy the photographer a drink.

I could have chopped your blog post by 90 percent:

    - Get the guy with a camera a drink or ten. Everything falls into place naturally after that.

    LOL. :)

Joking or not, it’s kinda true. I’ve found that people trust you more and open up if they perceive you as “one of the gang”, and not “that guy with the camera…”

And that’s best accomplished with a drink in your hand, as far as nightclubs go.

Even if you’re nursing that vodka-tonic for an hour, it’s still a symbol of “OK, this guy isn’t a stunad working for you-know-who-with-the-polos”, they see that you’re out to have fun, and aren’t being narc-ish.

No, I totally agree. I like to have a drink in one hand & camera in the other while dancing with the crowd.

    Matthew,

I read you use the 17-55mm on POTN, any other set up you seen is good for crop bodies like a 30D? And what are the sweet spots for that lens when you shoot?

  • 6: Matthew | October 5th, 2008

From my experience, the sweet spot is at f3.5, but I usually stop it down more for a wider depth of field in nightlife shots. I’d recommend maybe buying a fish eye if you’re doing nightclub stuff, or upgrading to L series lens so your set for when you eventually get a full frame. That’s what I’m doing at least.

Looks like a fun place Tommy. :)

Not sure what camera you have, but slowing down your shutter speed will capture more of the club’s ambient light. Set the camera to Manual Mode to set it yourself, or maybe it has a Party or Night Portrait setting on it.
